Rock Identifier ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Photos and Camera Data
When you use the identification feature, the App accesses your device camera or photo library. Photos are primarily processed on-device using our machine learning model. When cloud-based identification is used for enhanced accuracy, photos are sent to our AI service provider (Anthropic) for analysis. These photos are not stored on our servers after processing is complete.
1.2 Location Data
With your explicit permission, the App may collect GPS coordinates to tag where a rock or mineral sample was found. Location data is:
- Stored locally on your device
- Synced via your personal iCloud account if iCloud sync is enabled
- Never shared with third parties
- Never used for advertising or tracking
You can disable location access at any time in your device Settings.
1.3 Collection and Sample Data
Information you enter about your samples (names, notes, categories, photos) is stored locally on your device and, if enabled, synced via iCloud to your other devices. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
1.4 Usage Analytics
We may collect anonymized, aggregated usage statistics (e.g., which features are used most often, app crash reports) to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information exclusively to:
- Provide rock, mineral, and gemstone identification
- Store and sync your personal collection across your devices
- Display your finds on the map
- Improve the App's identification accuracy and features
- Respond to your support requests
3. Third-Party Services
3.1 Anthropic (Claude API)
When you use cloud-based identification, your photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. Anthropic processes this data according to their Privacy Policy. Anthropic does not use your data to train their models when accessed via their API.
3.2 Apple iCloud
If you enable iCloud sync, your collection data is stored in your personal iCloud account under Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
3.3 Apple App Store
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored primarily on your device. We employ industry-standard security practices to protect any data that is transmitted to our services. Photos sent for cloud identification are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and are not retained after processing.
5. Your Rights (GDPR & Global Privacy)
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — request deletion of your data
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Restrict processing — limit how we use your data
- Withdraw consent — revoke any previously given consent
Since most data is stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account, you can exercise these rights directly by deleting data within the App or by deleting the App itself. For any additional requests, contact us at privacy@dreamsworld.site.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Data Retention
On-device data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the App. Photos sent for cloud-based identification are not retained after the identification result is returned. Anonymized analytics data may be retained for up to 24 months.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
